Cardinals beat Mets in extra innings (7/26/08)
Sunday, July 27th, 2008The St. Louis Cardinals (57-48) beat the New York Mets (56-47) 10-8 at Shea Stadium in New York in 14 innings. This game was an offensive fan’s dream: 4 homeruns were hit, and a total of 37 hits, 21 by the Cards and 16 by the Mets. In the top of the 14th Albert Pujols finally hit the HR that put the Cards ahead off of Aaron Heilman, who was the last player the Mets had in the bullpen. He had pitched three innings. Both teams had plenty of chances to win earlier: The Cards left 17 runners on base, while the Mets left 16 on. Brad Thompson was given the win, with Heilman given the loss.
