MLB picks - Los Angeles Angels vs Boston Red Sox 7/30/08 prediction and pick

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

After almost seeing a no hitter in last nights game (Angels pitcher John Lackey pitched 8 1/3rds innings of no hit ball), fans will be in for another great game between the Los Angeles Angels (66-40) and the Boston Red Sox (61-47). The Angels currently have the best record in MLB and yesterday made a big move in acquiring first basemen Mark Teixeira from the Atlanta Braves. Teixeira, who is expected to play for Los Angeles tonight, was batting .283 with 20 homers and 78 RBIs with the Braves. The deal was made to help improve the Angels offense, which needed something to help push them over the edge of their competition. The Angels are ninth in the AL in home runs (99), batting average (.261) and runs scored (480).

Consider these criteria when determining a pick between the Angels and the Red Sox:

- The Angels have won eleven of their last thirteen games

- The Red Sox have lost four of their last five games

- All-Star Joe Saunders (13-5, 3.10) takes the mound for the Angels

- Boston ace Josh Beckett (9-7, 3.83) will start tonight

- The Angels have a very good road record, at 35-19

- Boston is 37-15 at Fenway

- Boston is trying to avoid being swept at home

Wild finish in Texas

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

The Seattle Mariners (40-66) faced the Texas Rangers (55-52) last night in a game that had many moments both sides would like to forget. Texas was up 9-3 going into the 6th inning but gave up 3 runs. They gave up 2 runs in the 7th and 2 runs in the 9th as well to eventually fall behind 10-9 going into the bottom half of the ninth inning. Rangers third basemen Ramón Vázquez had plenty to do with giving up the big lead.  He accounted for 3 of the Rangers 5 errors. But Vázquez actually ended up being the savior of the game as he hit a two run double in the bottom of the ninth to give Texas an 11-10 victory over Seattle. Vazquez had this to say about the result of his 9th inning double: “It’s awesome. I was glad to do something to end the game. It would have been a tough one leaving this game if we would have lost.”
