Diamondbacks beat Dodgers 2-1 behind strong start by Webb 7/31/08

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Brandon Webb’s final tally: 8 innings pitched, with only 6 hits and one run. He walked one and struck out six. But the most important stat, as far as Arizona (56-52) is concerned, is that big fat W, since he earned the win last night. The win gave Webb his Major League leading 15th win of the season, and continues his dominance against the Los Angeles Dodgers (54-54). He is 8-0 in his last nine starts versus the Dodgers, while only allowing nine runs in 71 innings. Keep that in mind the next time they are both matched up (and it will likely happen again this season, with the amount of games they have left against each other).Brandon Webb’s final tally: 8 innings pitched, with only 6 hits and one run. MLB picks - Los Angeles Dodgers vs Arizona Diamondbacks 7/31/08 prediction and pick

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Only one game separates the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks (55-52) with the Los Angeles Dodgers (54-53) in the NL West, so this will surely be a game to watch tonight. Both teams, with 55 games remaining, will face each other 10 times so each one knows how important these games should be.

Consider these criteria when determining a pick between the Diamondbacks and the Dodgers:

- Brandon Webb (14-4, 3.14) will take the mound for Arizona to try to become the first 15 game winner this season

- Derek Lowe (8-8, 3.74) will take the mound for the Dodgers

- Arizona has won five of six games to start off their 10 game road trip

- Brandon Webb is impressive against NL West opponents, going 7-0 with a 2.20 ERA in eight starts with a  .199 BAA.

- Los Angeles is 30-25 at home

- Arizona is 25-30 on the road

Dodgers rally in the 9th, beat Diamondbacks

Monday, July 21st, 2008

In an important NL West matchup that pitted reigning NL Cy Young winner, Arizona’s Brandon Webb, against Derek Lowe of the Dodgers, the outcome seemed certain. And it was, up until the Dodgers decided to spoil another win for Webb as they had a five run rally in the top of the ninth to beat Arizona 6-5. Webb pitched 8 strong innings, giving up only six hits and letting in one run, with four strikeouts and three walks. Brandon Lyon was charged with the loss as he let in five runs in two-thirds of an inning for his fifth blown save of the season. The first of those five runs was scored by Nomar Garciaparra, who led off the inning with a double. With no outs, Andruw Jones hit what should have been a double play, but was mishandled by Arizona shortstop Stephen Drew, a pivotal point in the game. The Dodgers ended up scoring four runs with two outs. Ramon Troncoso was awarded his first major league win, striking out 5 in two innings while giving up no hits. The win pulled the Dodgers even with Arizona at the top of the NL West standings. Jonathan Broxton, while giving up one run, was still credited with the save, his second of the year.
