MLB baseball picks - Chicago Cubs vs St. Louis Cardinals 8/9/08 prediction and pick

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

The St. Louis Cardinals (64-54) take on the Chicago Cubs (70-46) this afternoon after last night’s exciting extra innings game. The Cubs lead the Cardinals by 7 games in the NL Central, but the Cardinals are only 2 games behind the Brewers for the NL Wild Card spot. Game time is scheduled for 3:55 PM Eastern at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

Consider these criteria when determining a pick between the Cardinals and the Cubs:

- Carlos Zambrano (12-4, 2.76) will start for Chicago

- Todd Wellemeyer (8-4, 4.01) will start for St. Louis

- Zambrano has won 4 straight starts vs. St. Louis

- Zamrbano is 6-0 with a 2.25 ERA in 12 starts this season

- Wellemeyer is 1-1 with a 4.09 ERA in two starts and one relief appearance lifetime against Chicago

- Chicago is 44-16 at home

- St. Louis is 31-26 on the road

- St. Louis is 5-5 in its last 10

- Chicago is 8-2 in its last 10

MLB picks - Chicago Cubs vs Milwaukee Brewers 7/29/08 prediction and pick

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Yesterday, the Cubs (62-44) faced the Brewers (60-46) ace, C.C. Sabathia.  Today, the roles are reversed and Milwaukee faces Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano (11-4, 2.96). The Cubs don’t catch a break, however, as they have to face the starting pitcher for the National League All Stars, Ben Sheets (10-3, 2.87). Yesterday’s game was a thrilling, even matchup and we expect more of the same today. Both pitchers have ERA’s below 3, so don’t expect this to be an offensive game.

Consider these criteria when determining a pick between the Cubs and the Brewers:

- The Cubs are 7-13 in their last 20 road games

- The Brewers are 19-9 in their own division, the NL Central

- Carlos Zambrano has been dominant against the Brewers, giving up one earned run in 13 innings

- Zambrano threw 125 pitches in his last outing, Thursday

- Despite the loss last night, the Brewers are still much better at home than Chicago is on the road: Brewers home record: 32-20, Cubs road record: 23-30
