MLB picks - Los Angeles Angels vs Boston Red Sox 7/30/08 prediction and pick

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

After almost seeing a no hitter in last nights game (Angels pitcher John Lackey pitched 8 1/3rds innings of no hit ball), fans will be in for another great game between the Los Angeles Angels (66-40) and the Boston Red Sox (61-47). The Angels currently have the best record in MLB and yesterday made a big move in acquiring first basemen Mark Teixeira from the Atlanta Braves. Teixeira, who is expected to play for Los Angeles tonight, was batting .283 with 20 homers and 78 RBIs with the Braves. The deal was made to help improve the Angels offense, which needed something to help push them over the edge of their competition. The Angels are ninth in the AL in home runs (99), batting average (.261) and runs scored (480).

Consider these criteria when determining a pick between the Angels and the Red Sox:

- The Angels have won eleven of their last thirteen games

- The Red Sox have lost four of their last five games

- All-Star Joe Saunders (13-5, 3.10) takes the mound for the Angels

- Boston ace Josh Beckett (9-7, 3.83) will start tonight

- The Angels have a very good road record, at 35-19

- Boston is 37-15 at Fenway

- Boston is trying to avoid being swept at home

MLB picks - Yankees vs Red Sox 7/25 prediction and pick

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Yeah, these two meet up again this weekend. But at least now we’re in the second half of the season, and the Yankees have climbed up the AL East after a horrible start to make this series actually mean something. Josh Beckett (9-6, 3.97) will take the mound for Boston, and Joba Chamberlain (2-3, 2.52) will pitch for New York. Expect a big ovation for Big Papi, David Ortiz, when he steps up to the plate. This is his first game back after missing 47 games while on the DL for a  torn tendon sheath in his left wrist. Boston did not fall off when Ortiz was gone, as they went 26-19 without their DH.

Consider these criteria when determining a pick for tonight’s game between the Yankees and the Red Sox:

- The Yankees have not lost since the All-Star break, winning six straight games.

- The Yankees have been a major league-best 57-25 in the second halves of the last two seasons.

- This series is important to both teams: Boston is currently 3 games ahead of New York in the AL East standings.

- Joba Chamberlain has yet to make it to the seventh inning in a start, but the Yankees boast the sixth best bullpen ERA this season.

- Boston starter Josh Beckett has won all three meetings he has had with the Yankees this season, allowing three runs in each game.

- Boston is 36-11 at home, while the Yankees are .500 on the road: 23-23.
